Organic Sandalwood Oil
Organic Sandalwood Oil (Santalum austrocaledonicum) from the island of Erromango in Vanuatu is fast becoming a preferred choice of sandalwood experts.
Sandalwood Oil is widely used in cosmetic and perfumery industries and by skin care formulators. The essential oil of Sandalwood contains antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and anti-spasmodic characteristics.
Sandalwood has been used in the South Pacific islands for over hundreds of years, where it has been used for perfumery and burning, to create a relaxing ambiance.
East Indian Sandalwood is known as the crème de le crème of Sandalwood Oils, but not everyone can afford the exorbitant price tag that goes with it. Try this comparable Sandalwood Oil from the pristine isles of Vanuatu, at a fraction of the cost, and I’m sure you will be pleased with your choice.
Erromango is a remote and difficult island to access. The producers of this Sandalwood Oil have been working with the Chiefs of Erromango for many years to harvest, and value add to the timber, by producing via steam distillation, 100% pure Sandalwood Oil.
Sandalwood forestation has a strong history on Erromango. The indigenous people of Erromango have a strong knowledge about growing and harvesting this prized timber. Now with steam distillation equipment on the island and appropriate training given by our supplier, who has been building steam distillation mills for many years, the island of Erromango has a valuable industry, employing locals on many levels of the products – from forest to bottle.
Lav Kokonas was able to donate a large quantity of organic, open-pollinated seeds post Cyclone Pam in March 2015, assisting with the future-proofing food supplies, by growing crops and harvesting the seed to retain in a seed bank. An insurance policy for other devastating weather conditions that may hit this small island in the future.
This Sandalwood is another “beyond fair trade”, ethically sourced product from Vanuatu.
